Zakat-ul-maal is the third pillar of Islam. Many people distribute it in Ramadan for more rewards. MCC regularly collects Zakat and distributes it to the needy and deserving people in the Community. Please deposit your donations in the appropriately marked boxes at the Elston Avenue and Morton Grove buildings, making any checks payable to Muslim Community Center with ‘zakat’ written in the memo section. For online donations please click here.
Zakat-ul-Fitr
is wajib on every Muslim on whom Zakatul-Maal is obligatory (Fard). It should be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr. The amount is equal to 4.874 pounds of wheat flour. The market value, including sales tax, is around $3.25 per person. Many scholars in the area have fixed it at $5.00 per person. Either amount is right. MCC will have boxes both at Elston Avenue and Morton Grove buildings for collection of Zakat-ul-Fitr for distribution to deserving needy people in the community
